  • the Congress will be accepting abstracts for other noninvasive modalities such as a) vascular ultrasound, b) magnetic resonance imaging, c) radionuclide/nuclear studies, d) CT Scanning, e) other imaging modalities related to the cardiovascular system

Format:

  • Abstracts need to be limited to 1-page, 4 and 5/8 inches wide by 5 and 1/2 inches long (approximately 11.7cm wide by 13.97cm long). Each abstract must be in English and needs to be submitted on white paper with the title in capital letters followed on the next line with names of the authors, institute or hospital, city, state and country. Underline presenting author’s name.
  • A separate sheet must be attached indicating names of corresponding author, address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail address, as well as whether the abstract is for oral or poster presentation
  • Abstracts must contain Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion sections
  • A maximum of five (5) unique abbreviations may be used in the body of the abstract, however no abbreviations should appear in the title. Abbreviations must be placed in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears.
    • Note: abbreviations increase the difficulty of reading and evaluating abstracts, and this will be considered in the review process.
  • There is no limit to the number of abstracts an investigator may submit; however these should not appear to replicate a similar study. Should authors' names appear on more than 1 abstract, these must appear and be spelled identically on each for proper indexing. Whenever possible, authors’ names are not to be listed with initials only.

Selection Process:

  • Abstracts will be selected by a Committee appointed by the scientific committee in consultation with ISCU. Accepted abstracts will be scheduled as either 10-minute oral presentations or 60-minute poster presentations.
  • Letters of acceptance co-signed by the Congress President, Congress Secretary and ISCU President will be sent to designated presenter (oral presentation) or main author (poster presentation). Titles and co-authors of accepted abstracts will be posted in the Congress website.
  • The Congress is unable to reimburse presenters for travel, hotel and per diem expenses; accepted poster abstract presenters must register to obtain a Congress badge. no reduction in registration rate and hotel reservation.

Publication:
Selected abstracts will be considered for publication in the Echocardiography Journal as well as in the journal of the Philippine Society of Echocardiography.

Presentation:
All accepted abstracts will be scheduled as either a 10-minute oral presentation or during the 60-minute dedicated poster viewing hour. Format will be determined by the Program Committee based on topic and relationship to others submitted.

  • ORAL PRESENTATION
    • Duration: 10 minutes. Date and time of presentation will be indicated in the acceptance letter.
    • All abstract presentations and question-and-answer periods will be in English.
    • Presentations must be brought by presenters to the Speaker Ready Room and given go-signal to be uploaded to the appropriate meeting room.
  • POSTER PRESENTATION
    • Time required for presenter to attend the board will be indicated in the acceptance letter. The overall length of the poster sessions will be 60 minutes and accepted abstracts must be displayed for the entire length of this period.
    • Board measurement: Each light gray poster board measures four feet high (121 cm) and eight feet wide (244 cm).
    • Presentation material, including a copy of the abstract as well as all relevant disclosure information must be provided. Text and illustrations must be clear and visible from distances of at least 3-feet.
    • Use of lightweight materials is encouraged, and advance production of all materials required. Velcro fasteners and push pins will be provided.
    • No audio-visual or computer equipment requiring electrical power will be permitted in the area.

Awards:
A Selection Committee established by the Congress and ISCU and co-chaired by the President of the World Congress and the President of ISCU (who is also the International President of the World Congress) will award prizes for best abstracts. [poster and oral presentations]

Eligibility:
Abstracts previously presented at (a national or international meeting or a previous World Congress) or published are not eligible for consideration. Abstracts submitted to the Young Investigators Award competition may also be submitted, however if chosen for both, the author must select 1 forum for submitted abstract.

Copyright and Confidentiality:

  • The submitter acts on behalf of all co-authors and transfers to the Congress copyright and all other rights to the material, including reproduction, distribution, performance, display and creation of derivative works in both print and digital form, once the abstract is submitted and/or accepted. Co-authors, however, reserve all proprietary rights other than copyright as well as the right to use all or part of the abstract in future works.
  • All submitted abstracts are disclosed to members of the Selection Committee, as well as to the Congress employees and contractors as necessary. The Congress and its employees and contractors cannot guarantee confidentiality of all submitted abstracts, however every effort will be made to ensure confidentiality.
  • Should authors’ / presenters’ works be published in a major peer-reviewed medical journal during the timing of the XIV World Congress sessions, the abstract author / presenter has the responsibility of informing the Congress Secretariat of the publication name and date at the soonest time, to allow for coordination of material embargo.
